Ethan Vestby’s review published on Letterboxd:
“Quit it. Mama’s watching her stories.”
Not sure why Aronofsky wanted to adapt such a hackneyed play (and for all his formal vigour he seems lost in translating a lot of things from one medium to the other) but I won’t lie, as someone working my way through a difficult relationship with an estranged parent who feels guilt over abandonment, this got me a little. Genuinely made me wonder if I sometimes come off as cruel to my mother as Sadie Sink does to Fraser, and that’s not nothing!
Also will be avoiding the meatball sub next time I hit up Subway after the gym.
