This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

A Year of Rewatches Film #169

    Previous rating: 2 1/2 stars

Reason for rewatch: Holiday horror viewing

Pre-rewatch thoughts: I have strong memories of all the controversy about this film when it first came out, but didn't wind up seeing it or the first sequel until my Freshman year of college. A Year of Rewatches Film #168

    Previous rating: 5 stars

    Reason for rewatch: Celebrating Sondheim

Pre-rewatch thoughts: Dark and twisty, it should be no surprise to anyone who knows me that it's my favorite musical.

Post-rewatch thoughts: One thing that stuck out to me on this watch was how the staging and lighting highlight the nightmarish quality of the story so well. Also, Angela Lansbury's physicality as Mrs. Lovett left an impression on me, from her flirtatiousness to her vaudevillian antics during "A Little Priest."

A Year of Rewatches Bonus Film

    Previous rating: 3 1/2 stars

    Reason for rewatch: Nostalgia

Pre-rewatch thoughts: I haven't seen this in 30 years, and remember very little other than I enjoyed it quite a bit and at some point someone gets stabbed with a weather-vane. It's been on my list of childhood/teenage favorites to revisit for quite a while, and after being at the top of my Netflix queue as Very Long Wait for…
