For some reason, the films I've seen from Scorsese prior to watching Taxi Driver have never really earned my affection. Mean Streets (don't shoot me) is mediocre, Last Temptation of Christ is decent but ludicrous, Cape Fear is the single most abjectly terrifying film I've ever seen (not in a good way) and Wolf of Wall Street and Goodfellas have a lot of great scenes but they're very messy and clichéd as they draw towards their respective conclusions.
