    A Dog's Purpose

A dog mystically misunderstands his way through four separate lives, these lives featuring abusive fathers, depression, murder, kidnappers, forlorn lovers, poverty, abandonment, and loneliness. Much too grim for children, but no other audience would take it's central conceit as seriously as the film wants. Who was this made for?

    The Fate of the Furious

A collection of cliches joining together a series of set pieces, deeply hamstrung by the fact that the set pieces in Acts Two and Three don't come close to the set pieces in Act One. It does feature Jason Statham taking out an entire airplane of bodyguards while holding a baby though.

  • Logan

This is the first film in years which made me feel that the superhero genre still deserves to be popular. I haven't felt a film as viscerally as this since 'The Dark Knight'. Truly impactful film-making; a bit long but deeply worthwhile.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

Fucking fantastic: a story about bridging the gap between masculinity and emotion, told through God planets, tree babies, angry raccoons, David Hasselhoff and Electric Light Orchestra. Between this and 'Logan', the superhero genre is suddenly justifying it's existence again.
