Too Early/Too Late

Too Early/Too Late ★★★★

What I love about Too Early/Too Late is how it brings us through time. Some shots in this reproduce familiar scenes from Lumière films with an amazing effect. It both brings us into the past, the world of the Lumière brothers, and simultaneously brings those images into the present. It helps connect what the film discusses to our own lives. It helps us identify with the revolutions of the past and see that events like those are just as possible today. This is a magnificent example of the power of slow cinema, a beautiful looking film, and an effective statement.
