    Death Star No. 3, unengaging new characters and a sweaty teenager prone to temper tantrums who looks suspiciously like a young Snape as a villain.

    For me, there was no spark. Only the original cast managed to lift it above dire. Daisy Ridley looks the part. But then she talks. And she's posh. John Boyega gets slightly better as the film progresses although it's too little too late.

    My expectations weren't set very high, after all Star Trek was good…

    Star Trek: The Motion Picture


    This has grown on me massively recently.

    I know it's slow going but the Enterprise porn near the start still sends a little shiver down my spine. And I know some of the effects are a tad ropey - Kirk and Scotty in the shuttle - but the trip towards VGER is visually stunning and at times looks a though they were actually there filming it for real.

    Settle down with a nice pot of tea and watch on a Sunday afternoon.
