This was the large serving of holiday cheese I was looking for.
This film is beautiful. It presents both majestic and harsh images of our planet with moments of joy and of sorrow. The film's structure allows for feelings of sympathy towards predators and prey alike, as the viewer comes to terms with the fact that we are all just fighting to survive the brutal reality of nature.
So many things about this film absolutely amazed me. First, the acting performances by Miles Teller and JK Simmons were superb. I felt an extremely strong sense of empathy for Andrew; the entire film was an emotional roller coaster for both of us! Terence, on the other hand, was not a character that one could empathize with, but that is his appeal. JK Simmons was able to flawlessly portray this character who is anything but flawless.
