The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 ★★★★½

H O O P 4/31

With quite a few years (in-universe, as well) between this and TCM1, it's expected that there's going to be a lot of differences. What I didn't expect was for this to be as thrilling, fresh, and engaging as the first despite literally being not even close to anything like that film. While that film reveled in grit, this one revels in slime. Colors are heightened. The sets constructed are huge, vibrant, and complex. The characters are much more exaggerated, and my new horror idol Chop Top is introduced. Character is really the key with this one, as Hooper is much more excited about expoloring what life is like for this twisted family, what it is that brings them together, and what makes them tick. I don't want to spoil this for anyone because you should see this movie right fucking now, but Leatherface's storyline in this movie is absolutely mindbending. You won't be able to keep your eyes off the screen!
