    The Mutilator

    A personal favorite.

Every time I've rewatched this, I've bumped the rating slightly and I think it's time for the full 5 stars.

The Mutilator is a movie I liked a lot on VHS. When the DVD was impossible to find, I picked up a disc with a VHS rip at a convention. Then, when it came out in a cleaned up unrated version courtesy of Arrow Video, I fell even more in love with it.

    It's the slasher film…

    The Monster Squad

The Monster Squad is the epitome of cinematic comfort food for me. The kind of movie that you never tire of watching. One you can throw on when you’re not feeling well or can’t decide on something else to watch or just need something familiar. Watching it feels like spending time with an old friend you haven’t seen in a while. I first saw Monster Squad in the late 80s when I was 6 or 7 and I would credit it with fueling my interest in horror and leading me to seek out scarier, bloodier movies as I got older.

The kind of slasher I'd like a lot more if it just spread out the kills a little and push one or two earlier in the runtime instead of saving them all for the finale.

A note on the blu-ray: it looks like shit. I started watching this on YouTube a while back and it was so dark that I decided to wait until I could see a better copy. I ended up ordering the blu-ray which is less dark but isn't much of a visual upgrade other than that.

    Blue Murder

    We've got another porno murder.

Taking the sex equals death slasher trope to the extreme, Blue Murder is about a killer exclusively targeting people who profit from sex, mainly people involved in the porn industry. The killer, in a cheap drug store clown mask, promises to continue killing unless the porn industry is shut down including all the adult theaters nearby.

The movie focuses on a reporter, played by Britney Spears' father, and a cop investigating the case. They take…

    Brain Damage

Watched as part of Joe Bob’s Indoor Drive-In Geek-Out's Cerebellum Night, a double feature with The Brain, at the Coolidge Corner Theatre.

A strange, singing brain creature named Aylmer attaches himself to Brian, drugging him with a blue substance he secretes and using Brian's craving for the drug to get his help looking for food - human brains. No plot description can truly describe what a grimy, wild ride this is though. A natural choice for Cerebellum Night since it's…
