Films I Recommend in Vanity Fair

I wrote an article for online Vanity Fair about the stars referenced in Damien Chazelle's (grisly) Babylon, and suggested films to watch for those who want to see what the real artists were like. This is a list of those movies. I've added just a handful more that space limitations meant I didn't mention. They include: Douglas Fairbanks in Robin Hood (1922), for my money his peak as an action star; Enemies of Women (1923), in which Clara Bow played "Girl Dancing on Table"; The Unknown (1927), which most people would pick as Joan Crawford's best silent; and Flesh and the Devil (1926), the apotheosis of John Gilbert's "Great Lover" image.
