Ford v Ferrari

Ford v Ferrari ★★★★★

"It's the perfect lap."

Raising my cuppa tea to Ken Miles.

This is a case where I love a movie so damn much, that I wish it was longer. It's that feeling where you want to spend more time with these people and in this world. I'm not into cars or racing at all, but I envy what Carroll Shelby and Ken Miles had. They're one of the lucky few who got to live out their passion every day. I also envy their friendship. The movie does a great job at showing the unspoken understanding between them. They both need each other in order to complete the tasks at hand.

I love how James Mangold channels his experiences as a studio director into this story. Getting a movie made through a studio shared so many parallels to the GT40's development through the system at Ford. It shows how many things are made possible because of the "suits" but that they can also easily derail a project due to their committee mentality. Sometimes you gotta just trust these eccentric sunglass wearing gear heads as they do their thing in sun soaked California. I think this is Mangold's most complete movie.
