Review In A Nutshell:
David Cronenberg's Naked Lunch left me with great disappointment, therefore I was not at all excited to come into Scanners; thinking it will probably be more of the same. Surprisingly Scanners was entertaining due to its interesting premise and simple plot devices, making it easy to buy into the world and characters that Cronenberg's has created. The film most definitely has its flaws, found primarily in the acting department, executing dialogue with little to no effect; also the film lacked a grand purpose with its science-fiction elements, simply aiming to tell a fun story. I liked seeing Cronenberg in this form, a sense of control and balance of his storytelling, and not getting lost in his surrealistic imagination. I never thought I would hear myself say it, but I cannot wait to see else Cronenberg has to offer.
