    I Am Cuba

To get the obvious out of the way, this is a visual tour de force. Rarely have I seen a film where the camera is so alive, moving in seemingly impossible directions for long takes. Easy Rider

This could be the quintessential road movie in that it just goes where the road leads it. It's a rambling affair and one that was clearly pieced together by people who were stoned out of their minds. Given those circumstances, it's surprisingly straightforward and grounded. This movie just frustrates me because it seems on the verge of greatness at several points but never reaches it. As I mentioned in an older review, the fog-enshrouded forest scenes have a wonderful storybook quality and are the best thing here. I also brought up the father-son relationship between Chaney and Rains, but that's the aspect that irks me now. There's so much potential to read the werewolf curse through the lens of their strained relationship, and their final…
