  Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse 2023

  Oh dear, they dipped their toes back in the water and finally got bit - satisfying character arcs and comedy half-shredded by the inescapable teeth of the franchise machine, the missing pieces replaced with admittedly very pretty new worlds but also cynical nods to other Sony projects and a 'to be continued' end card. This should've been one movie, and one far more after Spider-Punk's heart.

  Metamodernism's answer to Indiana Jones - intensely contemporary, consistently funny, quirkiness balanced by genuine care for people and, more simply, just a thrilling adventure. I love Biblically-accurate Jesus.

  A little rough around the edges but so refreshingly earnest that it coasts by on its charm. Still not sure anyone's quite figured out how to properly put social media to the screen though :/
