Understands story structure and stakes about as well (read: poorly) as Marvel's other Asian-led blockbuster, Black Widow, and similarly features a somewhat flat performance from its lead with Simu Liu's Shang-Chi being a little too heavily burdened by his daddy issues for his off-screen charisma to translate onto it. And yet... this is exactly the kind of operatic, multi-generational, multi-cultural nonsense that makes me tear up at comic books so I really enjoyed it regardless? The fight scenes are slick, the typical terrible MCU sheen uplifted by some excellent martial arts choreography and the fun mixed hip hop/traditional Chinese score. Tony Leung's sad eyes are utilised surprisingly well (hard for them not to be, I suppose) and Michelle Yeoh is delightful as ever, even if only used sparingly. So, yeah, good picture.
