Magic in the Moonlight ★★★½

Resting somewhere between his great films and his lackluster efforts, Woody Allen's Magic in the Moonlight feels like a 50/50 mash-up of both The Curse of the Jade Scorpion and Scoop, yet is better than both of those combined.

Credit must largely go to the performance of Colin Firth for making the movie consistently likable throughout, with the rest of the ensemble pulling their weight, too. Although Marcia Gay Harden is criminally underused.

It will be a lesser-talked-about Allen film, but it's better than that.
