I watched the original cut before studio interference and changes.
There's an incredible sense of scale and physicality here. You can really feel every bullet, every footstep. The director's vision is obvious and palpable. It's unbelievable that this is the work of one person. Great sound design too. Light on plot, it still managed to keep me glued to the screen. I didn't understand half of the things going on until I read other reviews and synopses. Some of the visuals are better left unexplained, in my opinion. It gives this world a feeling of being much larger. Which, of course, the 40k world is.
