    the gorgeous production and costume design. the pitch perfect comedy and pastiche. the twists on twists. the casting! this movie is a delightful surprise every time sigh kinda need an oral history that doubles as a coffee table book with production details actually (i have the novelization with a fake excerpt from barbara's book found in booksale be jealous)

    i fully expected this to be a bottle episode with a one-night plot and the expanded world-building is refreshing. i love the kind of unconventional happy ending where the protagonist is genuinely in a better place and free and weightless, but they're still living in a situation that's otherwise poignant and tragic from the outside, especially when it's not the usual creepy psychothriller way where they're only deluding themselves
