tick, tick...BOOM! ★★½

kept waiting for this movie to do anything thoughtful and it did none of it. very little reflection or critique on Larson's self identified central struggle of turning 30 and needing to be great, even less on his narcissism and ego. the editing left no room to breathe and made me feel like i was trapped inside the overactive mind of a theater kid, but maybe that was the point. also reused footage? it kept trying to get me to sympathize with Larson through cheap tricks and using his minority friends/partner to uplift him. upset i didn't end up liking this one. i love musicals and i love andrew garfield. just didn't land with me.
