King Richard

King Richard ★★

It hits all its expected hagiography spots while running as far as it can for anything potential interesting about the material. There's no real inspiration, but also avoid most of its worst tendencies like not letting Smith goes to overboard with award chasing tics (he is fine by the way, but oscars bloggers really a strange bunch), by the third act it even kinda remembers that as structured it should be about Venus greatness and not her dad's. Director Reinaldo Marcus Green did the much derided Joe Bell early this year, this one is indeed a lot better, but the line in this kind of oscar bait between competent mediocre product and an embarassement is real thin.
