Filipe Furtado’s review published on Letterboxd:
Takeshi Kitano old farts Yakuzas comedy that is as proudly lowbrow as it features some wonderful sight gags. It is hilarious and obviously no big European festivals (including Locarno) could bother with it (it opened in Japan in April and made it is international debut early last month). The veteran actors are great, the anger at current Japan is deeply felt, the formal play amusing as is his desire to follow gags as far as they could. Ryuzo and the Seven Henchmen manages to be as wacky and loud as the most vulgar Asian comedies and still find some moments of hard sorrow.
