This movie, incredulously, is a time loop movie that was released the same year that Groundhog Day was.
"Groundhog Day" was released on February 12, 1993 (makes sense) and "12:01" was released on July 5, 1993. However, to make matters even weirder, "12:01" was based on an Oscar-nominated short from 1990, and its creators accuse the creators of "Groundhog Day" of plagiarism! See the story here! And here.

I pinned this one awhile ago because it was one of the time loop movies that I always enjoy and the cast of Silverman, Slater and Landau was enough to give even a made-for-TV movie a shot. I’m so glad I did. This turned out to be one of the better movies in the genre and certainly one of the best TV movies I’ve ever seen.
What often happens in these things is the story gets over complicated (I love you but I’m looking at you, Primer) or loaded with loose ends, or just plain silly. 12:01 manages to keep the story simple and Silverman’s repeating journey through a single day is significantly different on each day as he tries…

Jack Sholder directed some fun genre movies including The Hidden, I'm surprised this effort is so obscure. It's cheap but it doesn't really need a budget, has a touch of being made for 90s TV.
Well paced with appealing characters and snappy dialogue, this isn't hurt a bit by the goofy plot. It all hangs together well enough.
Johnathan Silverman has great energy and pluck. Super Helen Slater ends up being beautifully adequate and Martin Landau shows up for a cheque. Spot Danny Trejo as his usual thug character.
I dig time loop films and found this entertaining.

I know a bold claim, this has Helen Slater, Johnathan Silverman, Martin Landau and Jeremy Piven.
A bouncy happy Time-loop story where Silverman needs to save Slaters life, and discover who the villain is.
This was produced for Showtime , but the same year as Groundhog Day, so it got lost in the ether of movie history.
The musical score was upbeat, the cast kept it light and fun. A great and funny ‘made for tv’ movie about a time loop. (Admittedly in the comedy category, because 12 Angry Men - 1954, wins for drama)
'12:01' costumo gostar bastante de filmes que possuem como tema central viagens no tempo, lapsos temporais etc, quando vi a sinopse desse e vi que tinha muita semelhança com o também de 1993 "Feitiço do Tempo", fiquei ainda mais curiosa.
É um telefilme modesto, mas tem uma história legal que mistura ficção científica com romance, não prendeu minha atenção tanto quanto imaginava, mas é um filme que passa rápido, então foi válido assistir pela curiosidade.
Released the same year as Groundhog Day, the joy of this is experiencing a time loop without any of that movie’s guiding influences. The way it goes veers closer to a Twilight Zone sci-fi plot, where “time bounces” and pseudo junk science determine the story. It’s full of cheese and peculiar acting. The whole thing feels as though might fall apart on itself any moment. And there’s a perilous thrill, exhibiting some new ideas, and while it would soon be usurped by a better acted, written, and directed film, there’s a lo-fi energy here, and it’s a perfectly serviceable low budget effort. While time loops were not it’s invention, nor Groundhog Day’s, it’s intriguing the ways these play out differently, and most interesting, how their loops play into similar elements and story mechanics.
A gloriously 90s slice of sci fi silliness that's not as restrictively low budget as I expected. Fans of time loops, big chunky keyboards and a fresh faced Jeremy Piven being a bit of a prick rejoice.
This is a tease yes, but the ending is amazing!

Wow, this film is so under the radar. Jonathan Silverman from Weekend at Bernie's, Helen "Supergirl" Slater, and legend Martin Landau star in a film together and it only has 1.4k views... criminal. Groundhog Day was maybe the time-loop comedy hit in '93, but this film brings a different vibe worth consideration.
The production is smaller, looks like maybe made-for-TV. So not as flashy. It is more serious. SF instead of fantasy, with a more science'y time-loop cause. Heavy on the thriller. The humor splits 50/50 between office humor and time-loop humor, which I liked. I'm a big Office Space fan though and at times this reminded me of that vibe.
Maybe I just have a soft spot for SF…
2 1/2 stars for its cast and premise.

Never knew this movie existed until recently, I can definitely see how the makers of Groundhog Day could have lifted its time loop premise.
The film feels very much like a product of it’s time. An early 90s made for tv movie with a decent cast. Horrible music. Not played for jokes. It’s a Tv Sci-fi movie.
12:01 feels very much like something from the X-Files, which also came out in 1993 or episode of the Twilight Zone. It’s not memorable but definitely worth a watch.
I know, I know, this is cheesy and bad but it is a time capsule back to the 90's phase that I love.

Dieser hier ist drei Monate nach „Groundhogs Day“ veröffentlicht worden und zählt damit zu den Pionieren.
Anders als Bill Murray‘s Trip haben wir es hier mit einem Thriller um korrupte Wissenschaftler und nebenbei auch ein wenig mit Liebe zu tun.
Nicht allzu wertig produziert, doch ist die Geschichte spannend genug um über die Laufzeit bei Laune zu halten.
Ein guter Vertreter des Genres.
