Synopsis
During a bloody night, a young man and his lover are struggling, not to get to the hospital, but to escape and survive.
2019 Directed by Yasir Al-Yasiri
During a bloody night, a young man and his lover are struggling, not to get to the hospital, but to escape and survive.
From Egypt, "122" is a watchable horror film that does little to make itself memorable. Revolving around a young couple whose life is rife with drama, the film finds the couple trapped in a location that should be a paragon of safety. The story quickly dispenses with the couple's dramatic layers and rolls through most of its running time as a cat and mouse thriller dressed in dread and blood. Small-scale, the production is dressed in evocative tension and danger, but some performances are not on board with the film's overarching tone. It is a solid outing whose charms are not long lasting.
First time watching an Egyptian horror movie, there are some interesting twists, but unfortunately the overall story is not that fascinating. Wis there could be better planned logic and details. Appreciate the inclusion of a deaf character and a couple's fighting for survival,.
Nice and violent Egyptian Horror film that is sure to please all the blood thirsty maniacs out there. The main characters did some dumb shit, but come on, it’s a horror movie! Real nice cinematography. Recommended.
Top of box office in Egypt for 30 days in a row.
The first Egyptian film ever to be made for 4DX Format. (don’t know much about it but 4DX sounds exciting!)
Egyptian horror movie...just too many instances of why would you do that.
I'm trying to get back to watching at least a movie a day again. I got out of doing that for a few weeks now. I was looking for something to watch and this was the first horror movie suggested to me on Netflix, so I went with it. It is from Egypt, which makes it the second film from there that I have watched now.
This one has to do with a couple trying to get some money together so they can get married. While traveling, they get into an accident. The girlfriend is a little banged up, but fine. The boyfriend can't be found and wakes up in the basement of a hospital. The doctor there believes he…
After some failed attempts in the past I was curious to see if the thriller/horror Genre has improved in egyptian cinema.
It definitely has not.
cast: 5/10
story: 8/10
visuals: 6/10
music: 5/10
panache: 2/10
overall: 6/10
notes: some of these people should not, medically, have been alive as long as they were in this movie. but honestly for the sake of badassery, i don't care about logic this time around.

That was alright actually. Better than I expected. A pretty low budget 'TCM in a partially closed hospital' film that, while it did run out of ideas and was a little far-fetched towards the end, was still pretty engaging.
The main couple had a charm together and I liked that she was deaf but without it really being used as a big key plotpoint. (Other then her constantly taking her hearing-aid out every 10 minutes to fix the batteries).
Won't change the world but it's fun to see horror films made outside the traditional movie countries.
A really cliché, pretty poorly acted, easily forgettable Egyptian slasher/horror.
The story doesn't feel natural at all, it's like they had 3 basic idea's in their head and just tried filling in the blanks as much as possible to connect the dots.
Fairly straightforward thriller in terms of setup and execution, outside of the Egyptian setting which is nice to see, but it's executed in as capable way as it needs to, offering up a few decent sequences that keep you into it. The performances are all pretty solid, with the central couple's relationship coming across as sweet and genuine which makes everything around it work much more effectively.
A very basic thriller. There are a couple of cultural things that don’t transition well, but There more to this than to so that it’s lacking. There are interesting concepts here that go absolutely no where. And they’re pretty central to the plot, so that’s kind of problematic. If you just want to watch a movie from Egypt, this is competent enough. But I’m sure there’s better options out there.
