  When I first watched this film, I was thirteen–a naive little boy captivated by this immensely entertaining three-hour flick. I didn’t really think much of this than a fun family movie about aspirations and dreams, not really minding its implications and what not.   Umpteenth viewing.

  Words will really never be enough to explain how much this film means to me. I know every line, every word of it. In a way, both good or bad, our whole present generation of Indian teens has been raised on this film. And it still holds up fairly phenomenally well. Every joke, every gag still hits like a knife, every emotional beat still reduces me to tears, one of the sharpest Bollywood screenplays ever written. Also extremely monumental to me personally as it was the first film that I remember that really made me love movies. Like a deep passionate obsessive kinda love, which still runs deep 11 years later.

  Listen, as an engineer myself, any movie glorifying engineering school will by default get a minimum of 4 stars. However, Aamir Khan kind of looks like an Indian Eminem and it is FREAKING me out.

  Admittedly the biggest gap in my watch history is Bollywood films. I’ve only seen a few, mainly because their baseline 3 hour runtimes are always daunting, but I do know they have some really stellar classics out there. Apparently, this is one of them, so I apologize in advance if I sound a bit like a 13-year-old watching The Godfather for the first time and saying “guys this is a pretty good movie, in my opinion”.

  This has been on my gotta watch it some day list but I just never got to it and fortunately for me Milez Das recommended it on my Movie Request Hotline list and well hells bells I'm kicking myself for not having seen it sooner!

  Whether favorably or negatively, it's difficult not to have a follower, acquaintance, or friend in India with whom you talk about films and not bring this film to coalition. Which isn't surprising given its box office and critical reaction, as well as the fact that it appears on several of this platform's top lists.

  And I partly understand why.

  The cinematography, for the most part, is superb and even rather creative for a comedy, with the film frequently breaching genre borders and becoming a clear example of genre-bending.
