Having seen the reiteration of 3:10 to Yuma (directed by James Mangold), I came into the original with a strong idea on what it is about and the outcomes of it’s characters. Yet despite this knowledge, I came out of Delmer Daves’ film still entertained and fascinated with the two leading figures, opening and exploring the ideas of manhood, responsibility, temptation, and corruption.
Each character is pigeonholed into their specific roles, but Daves and the film’s screenwriters placed a strong emphasis on revealing them beyond the mere stance they play in the narrative.
