A Bad Moms Christmas is best described as trying to capitalize on a sleeper hit. This movie ups the ante by adding more moms to the equation and hoping hilarity ensues. The new moms are Susan Sarandon, Christine Baranski, and Cheryl Hines and they're doing the best they can with the script they were given. The biggest problem is that the script is weaker than its predecessor.
The dynamic of daughters and their terrible mothers could be funny, but the new moms are one-dimensional. Baranski is a hyper-competitve perfectionist to Mila Kunis' more laid back approaches, Hines is overbearing with and overattached to Kristen Bell, and Sarandon is literally all of Kathryn Hahn's terrible characteristics without any sense of responsibility.
A lot of fun is drained from the original with the new moms. I recognize exaggeration is what makes comedies like this work, but the payoffs don't really work, right down to the weird Kenny G cameo.
