I've mentioned that I love Shakespeare, but I do not love this movie. To me, Shakespeare's plays can't be adapted to film that well because they were written before the concept of film was ever thought up so they are written for the stage and only the stage. However, I like this film. It's not amazing. It's not the truest adaptation, however, this is a good movie to show to anyone who has never had any interest in Shakespeare. It is enough to get a new viewer engaged enough to check out the original play.
The performances are really great. The actors clearly understand the script and portray it quite beautifully. Kevin Kline, however, steals the show as Nick Bottom. The production design, costume design, practical effects are really impressive.
I like the movie just fine. Good for people new to Shakespeare, but unsatisfying huge fans like myself.
