Agghh Another "23 dimensional Irani film that raises a billion question in your head and leaves you to wander confusably in your bedroom trying to make sense of the world we live in".

-can 2 people who want to save mankind marry?
    -of course.
-can they still save mankind, when they have children?
-of course they can! two heads are better than one.
-kids need looking after. they’ll have no time for others.
-yes, they will. for instance, i‘ll love my children and that’s good practice for loving other people. it’ll help me to look after mankind. it takes practice.

a beautiful film that recounts Makhmalbaf's experience as a political dissident. the film begs the question: what does it mean to save mankind? can violence against one be used to save the masses? what does it mean to "save"?

Glad I finally saw this, and I'm definitely going to see it again, but this hits me more in the gut than Close-Up ever did!

A masterpiece of the ages, clever in its way of reeling the audience in and keeping it invested. The use of different perspectives eventually culminating and a hefty bunch of self-aware, fourth wall flirting moments make for a unique experience, derived from an equally unique story. I've always wondered how controversial stories like this and the one from Kiarostami's Close-Up came together.

The famous ending of this film is an enormous, brilliant middlefinger to both the pro - and post-Shah…
