I had been postponing this film for a while as I was not sure what I would think of it. And, I guess I'm glad I finnally gave it a chance! It's a film that is hard to define. During that horrible time in the Balkans during the 90's, we find this team of humanitarian workers in Yugoslavia whose objective is to find a rope so they can retrieve a corpse that was left on a well. The Letterboxd Era Catch-Up Project
After three or four days watching South American football, I'm now playing catch-up on my catch-up project.
So instead of having TCM on and watching whatever painfully average westerns they have on today, I've decided to TAKE CONTROL of my viewing and watch some films from this project instead during the day. Just in the off chance there's anyone out there even slightly interested as to what's going on. Just review the film, arsehole.
Halfway through watching A Perfect Day (which, just in case you wondering, DOES NOT feature that Lou Reed song - although it does have a fantastic soundtrack, Ramones and all that, very lovely), I had a look at its IMDb page.…
Slow but a very unique film. Benicio Del Toro is becoming one of my favorite actors of all time. Some of the comedy didn't work for me but some of it worked really well and most of the time it was from Del Toro. This is one I feel required to have seen since I love war movies and it involves a war I knew almost nothing about. Some of the slow periods of this movie I spent reading the wikipedia article on the Bosnian war on my phone, some interesting stuff and a great setting for this type of movie.
This is a movie that mixes up a feel good movie with war. Somehow they get through with it! It has a collection of well build and acted characters that flow amidst the horror of war, with it's bureaucracies, unfairness, and day to day survival. In some point it gives to much attention to one relation between two characters (a little bit irrelevant I might say) which breaks a little bit of the flow. Tim Robbins is great, and like in The Brink he does great comedy. All the other are great too. In the end of the movie we get some redemption, and see although war f*** things up, life has it's way and everything just keeps going...
This movie follows a group of aid workers as they struggle to obtain some rope. That's it. Rope. That's not what the official synopsis says, and there may be a little more to it at times, but this is what the movie is basically about. I found it a bit slow and uneventful. It's very well acted, but that's about all I really enjoyed about it per se. If it weren't for its lame and somewhat out of place soundtrack(I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm a diehard Ramones fan and all...), I would've endured a little better throughout certain portions of the film. But maybe I'm just being an old stick in the mud... at the bottom of a well.

“A Perfect Day” does not start at all well, especially for the poor guy found at the bottom of the well. In an attempt to haul him up, so the well water is not contaminated, the rope breaks. At least Mambru(Benicio Del Toro), an aid worker, and Damir(Fedja Stukan), his translator, are on site, even if they do not have any answers. Their teammates, B(Tim Robbins) and rookie Sophie(Melanie Thierry) have problems of their own, namely a dead cow and whether or not it has been mined.
With an excellent international cast that also includes Olga Kurylenko, “A Perfect Day” questions the usefulness and efficacy of aid workers and other outsiders in international conflicts in droll fashion. These themes are…

A.V. Club review. Wish they'd nixed the sarcastic title in favor of The Day a Corpse Fell Into the Well.
A Perfect Day (2015) feels very authentic, but it's more a illustration of a war situation then a fully developed story. Worth a look for the fine performances in it, but I wished there was more to it then this.
