This film is definitely a little long for what it is, clocking in at about 2 hours and 10 minutes. The story itself is also nothing exceptional. However, there are some redeeming qualities of the movie. The first good thing is one of the greatest lines of dialogue I've ever heard in a movie. It comes from Sidney Poitier (who directed the film) while trying to negotiate a deal with some Chicago gangsters. In response to be called "boy" by the main mobster, Poitier responds, "You're not dealing with a boy, titty sucker." The next great thing is hearing the booming voice of James Earl Jones. This film came out just after Jones lent his voice to Darth Vader in STAR WARS. It's hard not to think of Vader while watching A PIECE OF THE ACTION. Finally, there are some wonderful performances given by the rest of the ensemble cast. The movie is nothing great, but not bad either.
