Prabhudeva’s ABCD, Aadalam Boys Chinnatha Dance, A.B.C.D, ABCD: Any Body Can Dance
Some great choreography and driving musical beats push along this routine dance film, which is fun if not particularly clever.
Clearly made in 3D - you can always tell by strange prop placements and camera angles - this showed in standard def on TV, which might have led to it feeling literally flat at certain points, but the plot is easy to follow and the story arc familiar (jealousy, rivalry, the old and the new, the set in their ways parent, etc.)
Watch for the dancing, which is a step up from, well, the Step Up franchise.
My first dance film I think, and it was terrific entertainment. I honestly didn't see it coming. I despise reality show talent contests and this is set in that world. We even have an evil Simon Cowell character (Hugh Grant lookalike to boot) but the real deal is more of a wanker I'd wager. Even more than this would-be rapist. But this film won me round by knowing exactly what is and being bloody good at it. There's a fair bit of cheese and heartstrings moments but it didn't irritate me once.
Anybody curious about Indian cinema would enjoy I think.
Every dance movie trope ever combined for max fun, the dance-to-drama ratio is wonderfully high.
Paisa wasool movie for DANCE lovers. All ensemble cast came from The Indian Dance Reality Show, D.I.D. (Dance India Dance).
Wonderful visuals in 3D.
Over two hours of toe-tapping brilliance, with one sequence at the halfway point that blew me away. It's not original, it might be more Westernised than most Indian cinema releases, and the last half hour has a few dance sequences that feel too similar to one another, but this is a feel-good movie up there with the best of 'em, and would also serve as a perfect gateway flick into the extensive filmography available from this part of the world.
.. A re-watch which was deserved; as to live the moment in front of the screen because it is treat to watch Every single person in the film dancing their heart out !! Specially The Great Prabhu Deva.
Hats Off, again, again, again and again !!
Superb movie, i guess i loved it because some of the cast were my fav in the DID contest. I took off the 0.5 star because of the emotional scene, it made me cry.
I love this movie, it's very entertaining. It has very good choreography and dance from start to finish, as I like them. It has nothing to envy to any other film of this style. Even though it lasts two hours and more, it didn't feel strong, I didn't even notice the time that had passed.
At its best the more absurd it gets. Vishnu broods on rooftops like Dance Batman. The town turns into the dance hating town of Footloose for literally just one scene. A drug addict has to dance to prove to cops that he’s not the drug addict they’re looking for. Grief dancing. It’s dumb, but in a funny way.
India's answer to Step Up franchise, and done as well in terms of dance choreography, if not better. Prabhu Deva shows again why he is considered one of the best fusion dancers in the films of the country, and follows it up with some rousing group dance numbers.
Cool title, but that's as good as 'ABCD' gets.
It's very much dance routine first, film second. They really do disregard any attempt at a proper premise, instead putting full focus on dance. In fairness, that's all the majority who choose to watch this will likely want. Still, they could've tried harder with the plot; which hits almost every cliché/trope imaginable.
This might've made for a fun/silly 90 minute production, but at 136 minutes it's a very long watch - it proper dragged, for me anyway. I was OK with events until the ending, which is awful from a story point of view. That's unfortunate, as it is actually set up well with a hearty event - the performance for…

Prabhu deva is a dance teacher in an academy and when he is outcasted from it he forms a dance team in some slum area in mumbai and then their adventure to win "dance dil se" tournament begins. This movie remains one of my all time faves and wow the dance, the story, the struggle to overcome existing status quo and become something is so relatable. Amazing watch!
I always say I’m not into dance competition movies, but I keep watching them, so what does that say? Maybe I find some enjoyment with them because they’re great at showing why dance is important to so many people. Dance is one of the best forms of open expression. Even though I don’t dance, I understand what it means to people that do.
ABCD has all of the charisma of Street Dancer without all of the unnecessary emotional subplots (well, for the most part). But I probably prefer the dancing in Street Dancer, so overall I’d say the two films are about equal. These movies are just not my cup of tea, though. They lack substance.
