I guess I'm a sucker, because I really loved this. As a person who has been in a monogamous relationship for 6 years, this has some little moments that are among the best I've ever seen regarding the subtleties of a long-term relationship, especially the part where they both go to the fridge naked to get a drink after having sex, and the eternal struggle that is wanting to spend time together but also wanting to go out. It's pretty seriously nestled into a sort of vague second-wave feminism, but yeah. I just really liked this movie. FUCK, Rob Lowe and Demi Moore are SO BEAUTIFUL. Also, Elizabeth Perkins ("give me a gin and tonic or I will KILL you") looks…
How many Brat Packers does it take for a film to be considered a Brat Pack film? Two of the vainest in the shape of Demi Moore and Rob Lowe are the couple whose early twenties lifestyle gets rearranged after a one night stand leads to a relationship not everyone supports.
Edward Zwick's first movie as director somehow managed to get the full four stars from Roger Ebert, but forgive me for thinking that the world's greatest film critic may have got it slightly wrong. Don't get me wrong this is a perfectly decent little romantic drama that does have an air of authenticity about it rather than those eighties cliches. Their relationship obviously grows from their sexual encounter but…

You know how people make fun of the 80's montages where people do a lot of stuff while pop music is playing? This film has so many of these moments, it can't feel more 80's than this.
For some reason it reminded me of "When Harry met Sally..." but I can't put my finger on why. It is not a very smart approach to relationships, sticking to a most basic level and not exploring why things really can go wrong and why they can go right. It also had a lot of Jim Belushi moments that felt like something else entirely and at the same time, belonged right in the film. But it did work most of the time.
Also, Rob Lowe did not say "Ann Perkins!" one single time.
there’s a part in this where rob lowe and demi moore go into their dark kitchen to drink orange juice after having sex and it was honestly the most wholesome thing i’ve seen in any romcom :”)
Young love and sex in 1985/1986 Chicago with all the communication issues, messy fights about friends, boundaries tested, and whether to live together or not, job problems, (un)happy holidays, know what to say and when to say it (or not), and breakups that leave both trying to figure out if they should get back together or remain apart.
My favorite performance of Demi Moore and Lowe, despite being as asshole sometimes, comes off less like some pretty boy douche, growing up and accepting responsibility for his wrongs in their relationship.
I could only wish to have those looks from Demi when drinking coffee or lying in bed half asleep. Her character is giving, willing to listen or offer sympathy when…
This was so cute and fun and cheesey and SET in Chicago and I’m MOVING there TOMORROW
