if u find time 2day watch my film lol — debut feature (rate it also lolol) 😁
Director Elijah Winfield returns with a psychological, experimental, and (very) personal character study of a debut feature. He did not disappoint whatsoever. I had the opportunity of rewatching this film in the early morning, today. And, there's something about this style of filmmaking, this screaming of pain, joy, sadness, and so on - so forth -- this transitioning in between a piece of art and a cry for help.
On rewatch, I read the description and discovered that Winfield filmed this before his short film, "Yesterday, it rained", which also left a significant effect on me, emotionally. You can see certain directors in both of these works, especially the latter. But, it also feels like Winfield took certain elements of…
the ambition is in full bloom but feels constrained by the resources made available to the film, hard for me to interact with the film as a whole piece rather than bursts of incredible ideas. winfield has a strong sense of audience already though, part of what made the experience of this fun was how interactive it was, making way for an experience that i’ve never really had before. some sharpening around the edges gotta occur but i feel like we are watching a great artist in discovery of himself and i’m just happy to witness the progress.
Pulling upon a vast network of art across different cultures and mediums to create something so singular is a triumph. Time and space are often talked about in media, but I think a forgotten aspect, and an important one at that, is perspective; the human experience as the two former ideas move through us, not ego driven, but an objective reality of what we offer.
an incredible work. reaching an apotheosis for the break of new cinema. multi textural, multi media. All the tools in the toolbox everyone should be excited about Elijah and his work.
Elijah’s stunning directorial debut. What an achievement. I hope everybody sees this.
