Affair in Trinidad reunites Gilda co-stars Rita Hayworth and Glenn Ford for what is effectively a Notorious knock off. The film begins with the apparent suicide of a man and his wife's attempts to help the police to catch the killer. As the title suggests, the film takes place in Trinidad, which makes for an interesting setting. The film is very slow paced and feels rather long because of it. The murder mystery aspect seems to take second stage at times, and the relationship between the two leads never really sizzles enough to justify the distraction. Rita Hayworth is always worth watching, however. She has a couple of singing and dancing routines that are entertaining through don't really add anything…
I’ve always wondered what Rita Hayworth in a Hitchcock film would be like and this is literally it. Honestly this is more of a 3/5 but Rita has two great musical numbers and every dress was incredibly stunning sorry I can’t be unbiased!!
So obviously a Notorious (1946) knockoff that it's actually sort of commendable— stole the plot right down to the party scene and the missing key. Rita Hayworth is also a standout, as always!! All the Jean Louis gowns she wears are to die for.
tbh this film had a really cool concept but it kind of fell flat for me:///
but like every rita hayworth film it was saved by her dancing and her just being the goddess she is. the woman can do no wrong in my book.
a crossover between notorious and gilda and i was here for it. obv not as quality but still a good time
The comeback of Rita back to Hollywood after her marriage of the prince and other escapades is sadly nothing more than a try back to Gilda her greatest triumph. Alone the beginning scene feels to similar to take it serious. Even if the story and acting of ford and Hayworth isn’t bad it can’t get the greatness of Gilda years before and that’s why this noir piece is kind of forgotten in the movie world and probably not to recommend outside your a Hayworth or ford fan.
Second teaming of Ford and Hayworth is interesting but a little tedious in parts. Hayworth’s rich husband looks to have committed suicide, but the Trinidad police seem to think something else is at play. They look into Rita’s relationship with another wealthy man who seems to be scheming something unusual on the island, with other mysterious people. Enter Glen Ford who plays her brother-in-law. In no way does he believe his brother would of ended his own life and intends to get to the bottom of his murder. Ford is commanding as always, and Rita perfectly plays the beautiful bombshell that may not be all that she seems to be. But the main storyline of the brother being killed seems to get lost towards the end resulting in another storyline that isn’t as exciting. Mixed bag this one, but still worth the watch for the two leads, and fun musical numbers performed by Rita.
“The worst tortures are those we invent for ourselves.”
Glen Ford’s character being overly critical of Rita’s is a common theme in their pairings. Perhaps a little too much plot in the narrative. I could’ve easily watched a whole of movie of Rita dancing in that club and then talking about all her interactions the morning after with her maid, Dominique, played by Juanita Moore.
Funny isn't it? When a person dies you only remember the good things.

Affair in Trinidad is the 1952 film noir directed by Vincent Sherman. Starring Rita Hayworth, Glenn Ford and Alexander Scourby the film marked Rita's return after four years departure from Columbia in a story of singer dancer Chris Emery who investigates the suspected murder of her husband.
Rita Hayworth is rightfully the star of the show and talk of Hollywood, her colourful song and dance numbers alone threaten to burst from the black and white noir. With undeniable screen presence the film is noticeably flat without her but even she couldn't elevate the picture beyond anything of…

I've mentioned previously that Gilda is one of my very favourite films and that Rita Hayworth is one of my favourite stars from Hollywood's golden age. With Gilda being such a big hit, I wasn't that surprised that they would try to re-capture that same magic. Affair in Trinidad was the result of this. It is a fine that I think is perfectly fine but nothing all that special.
The film follows Chris Emery who works as a nightclub singer and dancer. After finishing one of her performances, she receives news from Inspector Smythe that her husband Neil has been found dead. Following this news, she gets comfort from Neil's friend Max Fabian. As the…
