Alcoholic pilot, Ted Striker has developed a fear of flying due to wartime trauma, but nevertheless boards a passenger jet in an attempt to woo back his stewardess girlfriend. Food poisoning decimates the passengers and crew, leaving it up to Striker to land the plane with the help of a glue-sniffing air traffic controller and Striker's vengeful former Air Force captain, who must both talk him down.

At one point Leslie Nielsen has a line that's not funny and I thought "I hope that pays off" and then it pays off twice and gets funnier each time
1) It's been scientifically proven that this is the funniest movie of all time, so we don't need to have that conversation any more.
2) I thought jive was an actual language until I was maybe 13.
3) For some odd reason the visual gag of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar being pulled away from the cockpit wearing his Lakers gear and goggles is one of my favorite jokes in the movie.
4) This movie is rated PG but has boobs in it, as well as tons of other stuff not really appropriate for children. Luckily, the 80s were a different time and I was allowed to watch this about a billion times.
5) I've seen this a billion times and still caught a joke I had never noticed before.
“Nervous?”
“Yes.”
“First time?”
“No, I've been nervous lots of times.”
I could go on for hours
Every Thanksgiving my family watches this and it never gets old. I’ve seen it over 10 times and I’m still discovering new jokes. One of my favorite comedies of all time...maybe my favorite.
"Captain, how soon can we land?"
"I can't tell."
"You can tell me, I'm a doctor."
"No, I mean I'm not sure."
"Can't you take a guess?"
"Well... not for another two hours."
"You can't take a guess for another two hours?"
i think my favorite joke in this is that exact same shot of the plane they cut to like eighty times
They bought their tickets, they knew what they were getting into. I say, let ‘em crash.
