Better than its given credit for, Alien Autopsy marks the one and only headlining film roles for Ant and Dec, everyone's favourite Geordie television duo. The poor reception to the film pretty much killed there acting career, but I'm pretty sure there doing Ok with their cushy presenting jobs and millions of pounds. The film is actually pretty good, pretty funny, with good cameos from Harry Dean Stanton and Bill Pullman, and a general tone of mischievousness that I enjoyed. So there.
enjoyed this a lot more than i thought i would. a great soundtrack and hits the right comedy notes. big fan of young ant and dec, my northern bois
For a random low budget 00's comedy starring Ant and Dec, this is surprisingly kinda good?
Ok, if you're not British, and I know a lot of you aren't, you might not know who Ant and Dec are, they're basically the most iconic presenting duo of UK TV, they mainly host TV shows, they've done a bit of music stuff and a bit of TV acting, but they're mainly known for presenting. So it's kinda surprising to see they only have one major starring role in a film.
And honestly, I would've been totally cool with Ant and Dec just doing movies together for a bit, because this was pretty fun. Their dynamic worked pretty well, they have that classic…
"Cheer up? What do you expect? I got an alien with his arse lying in me sisters sink."
Am I really the only one that actually likes this film? I'm a bit surprised about the bad reception here on Letterboxd.
Alien Autopsy is one of the very first DVDs I bought. It was advertised on a German IMDB-like site on which I first started to rate movies I watched, organized a watchlist and other stuff back in 2007 or 2008. The trailer seemed funny and I thought the general plot was really interesting.
When I bought it and saw it the first time I wasn't disappointed at all. I thought the story was very well paced and nicely told. The…
I saw this with my dad years and years ago and enjoyed it, and I found it on dvd today so I knew I had to buy it. Not enough people have seen this and y’all who have give it way too much hate. This is a great film. Ant and Dec are honestly an incredible acting duo and I cannot understand why they didn’t get more lil films like this during the 00s like Pegg and Frost. They’re really good, and the supporting cast are all enjoyable British fun. The true story is absurdly engrossing and all-round this is just a great little British film. I guess Ant and Dec may not be as enjoyable to non-British audiences but I would recommend this film to anyone and everyone.
"It's not a fake. More of a remake."
Eh... like I don't know what I have to say really. I forgot this film existed until today even though I saw it two or three times as a kid and I just kind of wanted to rewatch it. I don't regret it even though it kinda sucks.
I genuinely love the concept and I thought Dec was pretty good, but nothing else gelled at all. It's a mid 00s feel good bargain bin British comedy. That's the only way to describe it. So much promise but such awful execution.
I suppose this is the sort of gem you used to be able to find in a Co-Op bargain bin next to chewing gum and 3 for 1 deals on bleach.
Until The Dark Knight got weirdly territorial that is. Shame on you Batman, shame on you.
Wait.....
Seriously....
No, it can't be....
Alien Autopsy isn't total shit.
Actually it's very watchable. Every fibre of my being was sure this was going to be utter dreck but it's a serviceable comedy.
Ant and Dec are pretty okay as far as acting goes. Let's just say I watched Tom Hanks, Daniel Craig, Paul Newman and Jude Law in Road to Perdition before watching this and I didn't particularly think any of them gave a performance in that which was leagues above Ant and Dec in this.
The final third is pretty weak, just feels like no one really knew where to take the film. However whilst it's certainly not a masterpiece, or even that good, it's not a total trainwreck so I'd say that's a win.
Thoroughly enjoyable British film based on the greatest hoax since the 1969 moonlanding (Stanley Kubrick, I'm looking at you) namely the infamous alien autopsy video that went viral across the world in the 90's.
It's the story of the 2 men who fooled millions of people into thinking that it was all real, and it's all quite interesting. Because it's the story of 2 con-men obviously the story should be taken with a bit of grain of salt, but as a piece of entertainment it fullfills all it's obligations to do just that: entertain.
Starring the British television duo Ant and Dec or PJ and Duncan as they once were called when they were pop-rappers in the lead, and they…
I realized that my DVD of Alien Autopsy might be the oldest surviving DVD in my collection. I still vividly remember back in 2007 when I first started to care about movies I frequented a website where I rated my watched movies and explored films I wanted to see. One day the front site of that page started advertising the DVD release of Alien Autopsy and it sounded fun so I made my dad buy it for me off Amazon.
I liked the film a lot back then and I still enjoy it a lot to this day. The subject matter being the true story of the infamous alien autopsy video is really interesting and I like the British dry…
I haven't seen this film since I was about 13, and I seem to remember it being bang average, but it's actually surprisingly good.
It ends a bit abruptly and I'm sure it doesn't stick exactly to what truly happened (looking at you crazy Hungarian art dealer) but the interview framing device works really well and the characters are all brilliant.
This may actually be the last time Ant and Dec were funny too.
I feel like no one who isn’t from the UK has ever watched or heard of this film.
I’m glad Ant & Dec stuck to presenting after this and never returned to the world of film.
For non-brits Ant & Dec are like the biggest TV duo in the UK who host 3 of the biggest shows in Britain.
Great story, awful casting - it’s what happens when you hire two TV presenters and then C-list or unknown (at the time) comedians. A true story (that has a genuine reveal at the end) about Ray Santilli (Dec Donnelly) and Gary Shoefield (Ant McPartlin) who are telling renowned documentary maker Morgan Banner (Bill Pullman) about their tale. A dodgy video pirater, Ray stumbles across a genuine video of an alien from Roswell having an autopsy, recorded by the FBI. They buy the video to show the world and make millions, but when they come to use it, the film is ruined by not being stored correctly. They take to an expert to recover it, which he says will take weeks…

In 1995 a piece of footage shook the world. With a bigger world-wide audience than Live Aid a piece of top-secret military film from Roswell in 1947 that showed the autopsy of an Alien being was broadcast around the globe. The film was brought to the attention of the world by best friends Ray and Gary. Media frenzy ensues which catapults Ray and Gary into the limelight, but the two of them have an even bigger secret and if the truth got out what would happen to them?
..
Based on true events. I don't quite know how to review this…
To compare this to Spinal Tap or Ed Wood would undervalue it. The stranger than fiction story of the infamous 1995 Alien Autopsy film. 5 donuts out of 5.
