cute! i love swing dancing, but i haven't danced in a long while, and seeing this just made me appreciate it even more. i'm also glad that the fact that the swing dancing scene today is predominantly white when it was created by black people was brought up! i couldn't stop thinking about it every time it cut to big crowds of people dancing.
some of the swing dancers seemed to be on crack though, you have that much energy and love for getting sweaty and moving around? fake
also the part in the movie where it got all preachy and ppl were like "it doesn't matter what political views your dance partner has, once you're swinging you just connect and all the other stuff becomes irrelevant" JFSHJJSDF WHAT??? are you insane? that's such a white liberal thing to say. nuh uh. dumbest shit i've heard. next.
Talk about an upbeat feel good documentary.
Swing dancing and a few of the stars of the dance are highlighted.
A lot of dancing with interviews interspersed.
I can't dance a lick but watching people dancing this infectious activity enjoying themselves is such a joy.
A normal documentary about a small selection of normal, every-day dancers; more slice-of-life home video than historical-feature, but filled with silly and sassy snippets. Lots of great, high-octane lindy-hop mania footage as expected, but a couple of brief, awkwardly placed dramatic and historical segments make watching this movie more like taking alternating hits of crack and WWII trivia.
Alive and Kicking is an uplifting documentary following the story of the life of swing dancing and it's affect on swing dancers. The documentary gives a brief outline of the birth of swing and how it continues to thrive. While I do wish to have a more in-depth look at the history of swing dancing, what I loved about the movie is the carefree feeling this film gave me. It shows the passion and love these dancers feel and how dancing has improved their lives. It shows fun dance scenes and overall a great film to put on to make you smile.
"...it's purpose was to elevate people, to raise their spirits, to let them laugh and smile even for a moment". I felt that hard
Not an emotional movie, but I started tearing up as soon as it started lmao. Damn, I love Lindy Hop.
A doc about some people who Lindy Hop at conventions and tournaments. Not so much about swing music, bands, or even dancing, although it has plenty of the latter. Still very positive and uplifting.
