What is Marble Hornets without Tim’s glorious sideburns??
Fuck this piece on trash and everyone involved with it. It has about fifty dog-based fake out jump scares and completely lacks the mystery, build up and engaging characters that made the youtube series great. The Operator doesn’t even look tall, plus he now has the power to make lamps really hot for absolutely no reason and randomly teleports in and out of shot, which just makes him far less scary. Also it's just the most boring horror I’ve ever seen. May genuinely be worse than Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2.
I've never seen a Marble Hornets so pardon my ignorance. Am I right to understand the bad guy functions like the ghosts from Super Mario?

In all honestly, it’s much better than the Slender Man movie. This one tries to utilize the paranoia the series did so well. And while it doesn’t have any tie ins to the series other than the basic plot, it is a good alternative for those not willing to invest all the time the web series demands of you.
Slender Man turns ten this year. There have already been so many movies in it's short existence, it's no wonder they've been mostly disappointing. I have a pretty high tolerance for found footage movies, and I easily fall for cliche trappings. Having low expectations has once again served me "well" because I actually liked this. It made me think about the reasons why The Ghost Dimension is my favorite of the Paranormal Activities. The use of digital video to make contact with inter-dimensional beings. Arrebato Hermetics in Video Magick, this is kind of the basic principle behind my interest in Found Footage and Shot on Video film. While Marble Hornets probably isn't the best example of this, I think it's a pretty accessible one. Creepy Pastas are made from scratch. Slender Man arrived ready to serve, no assembly required. 'Always Watching' competently did the job of warming up the leftovers.
There's something comforting and nostalgic about re-visiting junk food found footage movies from the 2010s. Always Watching was never one of the best found footage movies, not even in 2015, but going back to it brings back golden memories of a very scary subgenre in its infancy that was really experimenting with what worked and didn't from the POV perspective. I suspect this is the same kind of appeal that slashers and video nasties held to teens of the 80s.
The story is properly dark for a Slender Man film, much darker than the official Slender Man film from 2018, and the main trio of characters are all very interesting.

just saying, if i was in this movie, i just would have shot slender man in the head with a gun.
While not nearly as bad as I thought, this is still a standard found footage fare with basically most of the tropes you've come to expect. It's not very scary and has some logical flaws, but I really dig the story. It feels more intricate compared to most FF, which basically just some random supernatural occurrences caught on camera out of nowhere, and the slenderman mythos is good enough to make this film entertaining.
