Largely utter rubbish with weapons grade crap acting, but the horribly underused and Somerset-raised Sonoya Mizuno pretending to be turned on by some generic British guy's accent is one for the mind palace on a rainy day. It's a superpower 😎
*watches the Wide Open video again because Mizuno's dancing is awesome and the Chemical Brothers are goats*
This was not a bad movie....especially since I picked it up at the Dollar Tree for a buck. DVD's cover says it is a mix of Carrie and Black Swan. I see the Black Swan comparison.....but this has nothing in common with Carrie. Second half of movie is better than first half. I liked how the movie wrapped things up. Final thought: Not too bad.
If you have seen any given thriller before you have already seen this one....
4/10 D+
I honestly don't have all that much to say about this movie. It isn't terrible, but it never had my interest and was honestly pretty slow throughout. I would be interested in seeing some other ideas from the director as a I feel budget and the low budget probably kept this from being what it could have been, but I was far from enjoying this one.
This movie is kind of dumb. It feels aimless at first then, after they try to bore you into turning it off, it tries to liven things up a bit. It never really gets all that good though. The twist at the end tries to be clever, but it wasn't and I've seen plenty like it before. This movie tries hard to get its hooks in you by the end, but it never succeeds as everything it tries just falls flat. There isn't much here to appreciate. I've seen worse films, but this one feels like it tried to hard.
Drags on and has a LOT of filler which turns out to be one big misdirection. Actual plot of the movie is revealed in one scene of verbal exposition which they should have peppered throughout.
Acting was okay until tension rose to the point where everyone forgot to act and recite lines at the same time.
Violinist main character has some of the worst violin-acting that is hilarious to see.
Average at best. Robert Shaye's emulation of a Brian De Palma movie that's stealing from a lesser known Hitchcock movie, complete with Bernard Herman style of score. An interesting opening leads you to believe that it is going to be something special but not the case. Even a very very very brief cameo from Lin Shaye doesn't really make sense or help the movie that much.
Poor doesn't really seem to be a strong enough description of the whole proceedings.
Perhaps it's because I had ZERO expectations for this, but I actually quite enjoyed it. Sure it's a little cliche, and has a wrap-up that's been done to death. But I liked story and the characters and their interactions felt pretty real. At least for this grade of film... Bob Shaye totally surprised me here.
