I couldn't tell you why this is on here, but I'm not going to complain.
My favorite mecha anime, full stop. A hard nosed story of violence, pain, and - most importantly - endurance. Protagonist Chirico Cuvie is soft spoken and downright expressionless; he's a young man who only knows the horrors of war and is broadly defined by the tragedies he has lived through time and time again. In spite of every obstacle in his way, every gun pointed to his head, every explosive set, every invisible wire of fate trying to move him any which way - Chrico continues to live and move forward, whether he wants to or not.
More than any mecha show before or after…
Leaps and bounds ahead of 0079 or Zeta. If only because Chirico all but admits he's a war criminal while Amuro and Camille murder people because they don't want to get slapped.

52 episode animes are always daunting to get through, especially ones such as this that constantly lean on long drawn out battles to fill its time. But VOTOMS manages to craft some compelling stories and characters between the carnage. Solid world building creates a neat sci-fi universe that's worthy to explore. One exceptional arc calls to mind Heart of Darkness and the Vietnam War. A fun little world that I hope gets kicked up notch in OVAs.
