Kinda feel like Takashi Miike knows exactly how and when the world is going to end and won't tell anyone about it but is somehow giving us the answers through his movies...
Only miike is crazy enough to adapt this into live-action, the bastard, the crazy bastard, I hate that I love him so much that I'd gladly swallow every god damned abomination he spits my way. Fuck it, yum yum yum, horrible cgi and cringeworthy dialogue copied straight from the original manga, I do not care, this is delicious. Whose idea is it to replace the blood with red beads, no, not you again miike? I'm not even going to ask what's the intention behind such a bizarre decision, I've had enough of him, and that ridiculous, frustrating cliffhanger that's slowly becoming his trademark, I nearly chewed off all ten of my fingers because of it. Speaking of, where's the sequel to lesson of the evil, huh? False promises, go to hell, you old rascal you. #6

Miike is an interesting guy. His work is so distinct and bizarre but it always feels like it has some purpose, some greater goal, it is aiming for but maybe the audience doesn't get to know what it is. As the Gods Will is a chaotic fever dream of a movie with a high death count, bizarre and beautiful effects, and a story as fucked up as... well as fucked up as a typical Miike story. It's really engaging and weird and it has a fantastic ending.

If the devil makes work for idle hands, it's not evident here, as young Takahata's wish to escape his humdrum life is met with the intensely violent and somehow playful endings of most of his classmates at the hands of 'Killer demon head' and 'Killer pussy'.
Yup. As the Gods Will is barrel-o-monkeys bonkers alright, and like a live action videogame murder-em-up, retains a frantic pace and incredible energy until the very last boss level.
Lurid, tactile and full of energy, Takashi Miike proves again that he's the king of Japanese RGB horror in a film that is utterly mental and absolutely stunning in equal measures. So clever, and wildly entertaining.
