As a film, this was nothing special. As a slice of forgotten history, this was an infuriating, engrossing, and sadly necessary tale (sad because it's been forgotten, and sad because history is repeating itself).
Please go see this if you can. It's not slick, it's not Hollywood, and it's not subtle - but this true story is something you should fucking care about. Whether you're a man or a woman.
Compelling story and world. Giving liberties to some things writing anc character, but overall it was revealing and real. An important story that needs to be heard and exposed.
A film so uncertain of how to translate a true story into a feature-length narrative, it can’t even decide on a single style of title cards to identify years and locations.
Amazing story and message. Wow.
Film could have been a little more dynamic tho, but I think that’s beside the point after seeing this.
Though the writing leaves a little to be desired, the actors did a good job telling a very important story. I was engrossed in the story from the very beginning.
i praise the fact that it delivered a very empowering message to women. i'm really grateful that the jane collective's deeds made a mark in history but the movement for the equality and liberation of ALL women (not just white women) is far from over . our efforts should be more intersectional as we continue to rise against the patriarchy.
Laemmle Premiere Pass
Really good movie about a group of college girls who take it upon themselves to help those who want a safe (but illegal) abortion - in pre-Roe v. Wade era. Sarah Ramos & Sarah Steele were stand-outs.
Great story that needs to be told, and this film does it with some genuinely harrowing moments. At times the writing and character development feels a little broad, but the cast does really well and it's an intimate and real look into a small pocket of resistance to a greater injustice that is unfortunately still happening today.
