This could have been cool! Interest in the film was inspired by the Gayatri Devi character because I still remember A Princess Remembers and how much I loved reading it. The motivations for why I loved it and admired the Maharani are no longer clear, memory being a tricky thing. It did inspire an interest in the history of Rajasthan and a long quest for Annals and Antiquities of Rajasthan (which I couldn’t find because it was pre-Flipkart era and by the time it arrived, the era that is, I had lost interest). Anyway, Gitanjali Devi, the Emergency, political corruption, Sanjeev Gandhi(?), Royal greed, they were all just devices for a masala film. It was reminiscent of Ghulami and Dedh Ishqiya, but sans the former’s sense of social justice and the latter’s poetry.
