A dude yearning to marry his girlfriend with a father who won’t give his blessing until he gets a job played out as an uneven, unnecessary blending of genres that ultimately brings some closure to the initial love story. Starts out like a rom-com, gets dramatic, turns into a crime comedy, almost ends like a fucking tragedy, before finally bringing the happy ending in the very last, literal minute.
Ayşen Gruda and most of the supporting cast incited the most laughs out of me. Definitely gotta look into the load of 70’s classics that established her status as one of the great comediennes of old Turkish cinema. She even scored her own little homage with that Bizim Aile poster in one scene.
Robbery antics, traditions, a little word play in the writing and nothing but delightful kanun melodies underscoring the action made for a satisfying little Sunday evening with this one even if it was all over the place.
