"Battlestar Galatica" is easily the best serialised science fiction show made (so far). Every couple of years I re-visit this show and I'm reminded by how smart, mature and riveting the story is. There are a couple of missteps along the way but even the greatest shows have a few dud episodes. "Breaking Bad's" Fly episode (which I love) is mostly derided. "The Sopranos" coma episodes (again, my favourite of the series) are contentious amongst fans. I could list bad episodes from pretty much every show I've seen but we'll be here all day if I did.
Needless to say "Battlestar Galatica" is a mostly great show. The three hour mini-series which I'm currently logging is the true start to…
I can’t really discuss the mini series alone so my thoughts are about the mini series and full series
Excellent mini series that’s kicks off one the best sci-fi shows I’ve ever seen. They don’t hold any punches and it gets pretty dark side along with some awesome twists and battle scenes. The effects hold up well enough considering this is approaching 20 years old... this is one of the first series I remember binging and this is my 3rd time now that I’m restarting it. Love the soundtrack, characters & how it becomes an epic mind fuck ... good stuff highly recommended for sci fi space opera loving nerds 🚀
I'm not usually a big fan of overly melodramatic space-opera type stories but it's hard not to be won over by something this immensely formalist, from the opening one-shot character introductions through the tightly directed action (close-ups are used to great effect so that we never see what's going on before BAM the camera pulls back and the music kicks in and BAM you can't breathe), every emotional beat works exactly as it's planned (the best moments in the entire film/television pilot surround the refugee raffle) - I was unsure if I'd be onboard to stick it out with this TV show, but after an opening as immensely entertaining and impressive as this, I'm ready for whatever it throws at me.

I could talk about how the special effects look like the old Battlefront 2, it’s overstuffed and tonally inconsist but I got to see (a most likely bisexual) bo-Katan smoking a fat ass cigar so that’s nice.
Did enjoy this though, loved the ending and can’t wait for the rest of the series
I really like this take on killer robots. This sci-fi miniseries introduces the rebooted Battlestar Galactica television series. While in the end it's an over-dramatized space opera, it hosts a unique take on space combat as well as a great theme with good acting and solid dramatic sequences. It's essentially the pilot episode of a fantastic serialized science-fiction series.

when due to anxiety i begin to spiral a bit too much i tend to start a new show at random even if i have a bunch of others to catch up on or movies to watch. the feeling of complete mental occupation through a new extensive narrative and meeting characters with potential to be developed over multiple seasons lets me ease off on intrusive thoughts almost immediately and by the time i resurface they’ve often calmed to a manageable simmer in the back of my mind. this was such an occassion :)
my geeky heart is more content now. i’ll be checking out the actual show…
Mini-series that laid the foundation for the gripping show to follow, can do no wrong in my opinion. The effortless blend of action, drama, humor, visual effects, well-developed characterization, and memorable writing really sets it apart from a lot of other programs. This perfectly sets the tone for what is to come, and does a great job of establishing the reality of the post-Cylon world.
Are you alive?
No better way to dive into Battlestar Galactica's fascinating world than an epic 3 hour mini series-pilot. If you are a Sci-fi fan (I'd argue even if you are not) this show is a must watch. It's my second rewatch and I'm already amazed by how much they achieved with such a tight budget and how well it holds up after all these years. I can't wait to relive the whole experience once again, following all these amazing characters in survival mode to humanity's ultimate quest for a new home, in the way of discovering what makes humans special and all those things that are worth saving. So Say We All!
After finishing Fringe (which was very good after some early doubts), I needed another sci-fi series to get my teeth in to so let's try this.
It's a pretty slow start in places with a lot of moving parts and it'll be interesting, moving forward, whether this miniseries actually does the following TV series any favours in terms of putting character and plot blocks in place. As it stands, there was a *lot* going on here, some of it confusing and not all of it necessary.
The use of Tricia Helfer's Number Six was especially befuddling, not so much in the way she's used several times over but in terms of figuring out exactly whose side she's supposed to be…
More than a decade after its initial release, the mini series that kicked off the revamped Battlestar Galactica TV series is still just as fresh as ever. That’s probably because the nature of humanity has not changed a bit since then, and this series has always been more about relationships than technology. The characters simply do not age.
Season 1.0: Season 1 opens with the Cylons in hot pursuit of Battlestar Galactica and the fleet of humans who survived the War introduced in the preceding TV mini-series. Over the course of 13 episodes, there are acts of sabotage, a rebellion, the revelation of Cylon infiltrators that look human, the discovery of Kobol, a return to Caprica and an assassination attempt.…
This introduction miniseries was pretty cool. I liked the characterization a lot. I really enjoy the mechanics of the space combat, more realistic than other space opera. Lee has become a very cliché kind of heroe but I love him and kind of have a crush on him. I'll definitely start with the full series.
Logging this as the pilot miniseries. I never watched this show back when it was airing despite hearing a lot about it (I'm always gonna think of it as being of a piece with its similarly ambitious contemporaries LOST and Heroes) and despite being a dweeby preteen who consumed nothing but epic SFF sagas. Obviously, I'll have to wait to see what grand statement is being made about the War on Terror and the nature of sacrifice and whatnot, but this surprised me with its strong characters, lovingly retro production design, and quiet, mournful tone (even during space battles), playing as a scrappy, committed space opera for what used to be called the small screen. Consider me invested for the long journey.
All this has happened to my buddy Eric before.
All this will happen to my buddy Eric again.
