me [1/3 through this movie]: why does the internet hate griffith so much
me [2/3 through this movie]: ah
I sacrifice.
Watched big and loud on my television in my basement, because that's exactly what Miura deserves. I speak for both the movie and Kentaro's original manga when I say how impressive it is that this features rather close to each other both one of the most intimate and gorgeous sex scenes I have come across, and what has to be bar none the most disturbing and emotionally devastating rape scene in any work of fiction. I believe this is the fourth time that I have watched these movies, and therefore the fourth time I have seen The Advent. I like the lengthier runtime this has. This also has the strongest balance between the trilogy's 2D and 3D animation,…
Yeah. Just suck it up and invest in watching the original anime. Its longer but far more interestimg character wise.
This series is literally like watching a 4 hour "Previously On"
Third time editing this but, I originally expressed my anger towards Griffith for the second time (because the first time was when I read the manga) as a review for the LB page for this film. I still remember watching the film with friends who also were ino Berserk at the time, and I still remember the joy that it gave us just joking or talking about it.
For like the 10th, maybe 12th time, thank you Miura, I hope you are having a good time up there.
Contains what is perhaps the single most viscerally horrifying piece of animation ever put to the screen. I can scarcely think of things that truly compare to it, maybe select moments of Kon’s work in Perfect Blue or Paranoia Agent, but even then, it’s apples and oranges. Can’t remember if I found the eclipse itself to be more effective/potent/better animated in the 1997 show, but all I can say is that here it’s captured in all its nightmarish glory. Not only does it work well, but the sheer amount of time it takes up makes it feel like it’s slowly draining you of your will to live. Anime’s darkest night of the soul, as even comparable moments in things like…
They got it right on the third try.
Sure, there's some irksome stuff here, such as the useless and non-canonical backstory to Skull Knight and their trademark awful 3D animation. All of which is forgiven when you finally see the Eclipse re-imagined.
For a fan, it's awesome stuff. I'm still disappointed that they didn't cover some of the insane events before Griffith's rescue from the manga. In retrospect it's not much more than a movie adaptation of the '97 anime with a deeply inferior soundtrack. Speaking of which, it's weird how Shiro Sagisu, composer of the magnificent Rebuild of Evangelion soundtrack, managed to make something as uninspired as this.
This is not the way you want to experience Berserk. The first two movies are awful.
But this is the best animated Eclipse. And it also does a great job of setting up the following events of Berserk, unlike the abrupt ending of the anime.
Let these movies continue.
The character of Griffith is one of the most disgusting characters I have ever witnessed. I absolutely hate them.
The strengths of the previous two movies pay off cause the strengths are used to enhance the tragedy that is witnessed here. Some of are great and beautiful character moments that really makes the tragedy more uncomfortable once it happens. I decided to check out this trilogy due to the recent passing of the manga’s creator. Even though I didn’t have an attachment to this property, I have seen or played other pieces of content that was inspired by Berserk. The story of Berserk and the main character Guts gave some inspiration for Cloud from Final Fantasy 7 and Dante from…
