  on one hand: a serviceably made, really kind of sad documentary about childhood mental illness, parental grief, and urban legend - topics i find rly interesting in general and as someone who also spent her youth trawling through ghost stories online (candle cove am i right). on the other hand: had to hear richard 'dick' dawkins say "that's the definition of a good meme"

  The story of how two pre-teens, both of whom appear to be delusional and one of whom has been diagnosed as schizophrenic attempted to murder a friend of theirs believing that they are acting under the instructions of Slenderman.

  The thing that lies at the heart of their delusion and what makes it so difficult to break is exactly the same thing that lies at the heart of religious beliefs and that is the inability of anyone to disprove the existence of something which does not exist in the first place.

  These two children have never denied what they did and never tried to cover it up, and yet they were held in adult facilities and will eventually stand trial as adults.

  It's a crazy world out there.

  The imagination of people from various parts of the globe is lately pushed to its limits as legends and myths are made, some of them benevolent, some of them terrifying. Many of them become stories, and others become creepypastas.

  However, Slenderman has undoubtedly been the most prominent among the bunch. This is possibly due to the fact that for many people this character stands as a modern version of the boogeyman. In spite of all the creepypastas, not all have moved people to commit heinous crimes as this one.

  So, I was watching a ton of HBO docs last year. Lots of docs on murderers, children who murder, and even a cannibal cop. Slenderman didn't seem to be that threatening (he's not even real), but I did wake up from a nightmare about it after watching this documentary. None of the other frightful subjects from the documentaries I saw on HBO lodged into my subconscious. It had to be Slenderman.

  really didn't like how the documentary was trying to make me feel bad for the girls who committed the crime but the subject matter is gripping and horrifying enough to keep you on the edge of your seat. this also really was not edited very well and the fan art was really cringy ... but the societal impact this shit had on the internet and children is absolutely BONKERS

  The biggest problem with Beware the Slenderman is that it's been made too soon (Geyser's trial doesn't begin until October 2017).

  As such, it doesn't really have an ending. You're left with two documentaries: one looking at the legend of the Slenderman meme and one looking at the case of the Slenderman stabbing. Unfortunately, neither build to anything.

  Besides the crime itself, mostly taken aback by the seeming incompetence of both sets of parents, Anissa's for misdirecting their blame on 'iPads' and Morgan's for flat out ignoring her obvious mental health issues despite her father's condition.

  If you open up a documentary saying that a 12 year old girl was stabbed 19 times, left for dead and only found because she was able to drag herself out of the woods where a passerby was able to spot her from a path, chances are I'm going to be more interested on the what happened to that little girl next and not what happened to the people who stabbed her.

  not to brag, but on my old youtube channel that i don't use anymore i have a video, from october 12th, 2013 when i was 12 years old, titled "I FINALLY BEAT SLENDERMAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" where i played and defeated the mobile slenderman game. it has 49 views and 2 comments, so you could say slenderman helped make my 12 year old self make it "big" on youtube. thank you slenderman
