Well, what should I say about Bheeshma Parvam? Amal Neerad give it's freedom to one of the greatest Indian actors of all time and gives what audience want and delivers every single time. Just to say that this is not a spoiler but at the start thanks credit, Amal thanked to Mario Puzo, Francis Ford Coppola, Vyasan and I believe he also thanked Mani Ratnam (should have written down the notes but anyways) and it's also an inspiration to Godfather.

The movie is the typical amal neerad padam (stylish and sexy). Story okke valare generic anu but lets get real nammal atinu allalo pone. Ikka is being sexy as usual and baki ullavarum nice. The movie does have some issues like climax eniku underwhelming ayi toni and the music in some places were really nice and someplaces anavishyam (like sushin annaa pattu onu volume kuraku). Kurea pointless stuff like the 80s dance (That shine annan groove doe). But ya padam was fun.

Amal Neerad once again is honest about his priorities. Maybe its the covid restrictions, or time constraints, or maybe it's his faith in Mammootty's stardom and charisma. Whatever it might be, Amal wasn't afraid to be himself in Bheeshma Parvam.
Compromises made due to covid restrictions were apparent in most of the movies that were made around that time. However Bheeshma never feels like a "covid padam"; despite this too was shot completely indoors, with a limited crew like all the other movies. Which is yet another reminder…

ക്രിസ്ത്യാനികൾ പള്ളിയിൽ പോയി മാസ്സ് കാണുന്നതിലും ഞാൻ തിയേറ്ററിൽ പോയി അമൽ നീരദ് പടത്തിന്റെ മാസ്സ് കാണുന്നതിലും വ്യത്യാസം ഞാൻ കാണുന്നില്ല. രണ്ടും അവരുടെ സ്വന്തം രീതിയിൽ വിശ്വാസികളാണ്. ഇന്നേവരെ കണ്ട പടങ്ങളിൽ ഏറ്റവും കിടിലം തിയേറ്റർ എക്സ്പീരിയൻസ് ആയിരുന്നു ഭീഷ്മപർവ്വം. കഥയും പറിയും നോക്കി പോകുന്നതിൽ കാര്യം ഇല്ല. കേട്ടിട്ടില്ലേ - "ചൊട്ടയിലെ ശീലം ചുടല വരെ." പടം പക്കാ അമൽ നീരദ് പടമാണ്. അതിനി പുട്ടും മുട്ടക്കറിയായിറ്റ് വിളമ്പിയാലും കഞ്ഞി ആയിറ്റ് വിളമ്പിയാലും ഞാൻ എടുത്ത് പുഴുങ്ങിയിരിക്കും. തുടക്കം മുതൽ തീരുന്നത് വരെ എന്ത് വൈബയിരുന്നു! മമ്മൂട്ടി ഒരു രക്ഷയില്ല. എത്ര വർഷങ്ങൾക്കു ശേഷമാണ് ഇക്കയുടെ ഒരു പടം കണ്ട് തിയേറ്ററിൽ കീറി വിളിക്കുന്നത്! അജഗജാന്തരം കാണാത്തതിന്റെ വേദന വരെ മാറികിട്ടി. പാട്ട്, ഷോട്ട്, സെറ്റ്, സിഗരറ്റ്, എല്ലാം ഒരേ വൈബ്. ഇക്കയുടെ ഒറ്റവരി-ടയലോഗൊക്കെ കേട്ടപ്പോൾ തനിയെ എണീട്ടിരുന്ന ക്ലാപ്പടിക്കാൻ തോന്നും. ആ ഒരു രെട്രോ ഫീൽ നന്നായിട്ട് ട്രാൻസ്ലേട്ടായിട്ടുണ്ട്. പറുദീസ, രതിപുഷ്പം ഒക്കെ വന്നപ്പോൾ എണീറ്റ് നിന്ന് ടെൻസ്കളിയാണ്. ഐറ്റം നമ്പർ ഇല്ലാതെ അമൽ നീരദ് പടമില്ല, പക്ഷേ ഈ ട്ടൈപ്പ് ഐറ്റം ആദ്യമായിട്ടാണ്. പരീക്ഷയുടെ തലവേദന മാറി ഇപ്പോ സമാധാനമാണ്.

The mammootty fan in me was fluttering while watching this. A tried,tested and retold story resting on a powerful patriarchal figure & family politics presented in an evergreen bottle that is Mammootty the actor and superstar. He shines and how in every fricking scene.
As usual Amal Neerad has nothing new to offer story wise. Instead of going for another rip-off of a hong kong triad film or a hollywood film (like he always does), he presents Bheeshmaparvam as an ode to The Godfather (how original!).
