Biotherapy is incredible - an SOV giallo/slasher/sci-fi gore film that boils down the first two genres to their barest elements, making a pure excuse to show as much low-budget ultraviolence in the shortest amount of time possible while still having a 'plot'. It's incredibly sleazy, crappy, and violent, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
An eyeball gets ripped out of a doctor's head in an absurd hyper-close-up before the title even appears on screen. Don't sleep on this.
or! Godzilla vs. Biollante Giallo-Gaiden
I love the musical quality of the monster's absurd hissing breath.
intestinal distress and the worst damn eye exam you could ever have.
35 minutes of psychotronic SOV sleaze, an endless parade of gore for no other reason than to be an endless parade of gore. throw in some discussion on the apocalypse and the next stage of human evolution via GT medicine for good measure. perhaps the purest form of cinema there is, in my eyes.
so good I just had to check it out twice.
Bonkers excuse to murder, maim, and melt a bunch of scientists. Biotherapy uses a bizarre hybrid of genres to deliver the nasty stuff. It's one part giallo, one part Roger Corman monster movie, one part exploitation, and a few parts stupid. The ingredients to a nasty cocktail anyone with an undiscerning palate will enjoy. Me, for instance.
A 35 minute long japanese scifi-giallo with a shitload of awesome gore? Fuck yeah, I'm in!!!
i purposely watched this without subtitles so I had no idea what was going on. I don’t even think I can rate a film where some fella gets his intestines ripped out by a walking strobe light/lizard man and is completely fine for like half an hour afterwards.

are you looking for material for your projection reel that you use during your industrial techno sets? maybe some clips for your Skinny Puppy ripoff band's first music video? look no further! great stuff here for such an occasion. just wish this were, like, a full length thing. without so much downtime. kinda reminds me of a truncated, lower budget Fulci film but with a weird alien dude instead of zombies.
This one has some really nasty gore effects. It’s basically a resume for whoever did them.
Def nastier and meaner than Conton. There is a silly little plot about a secret formula which evolves into such a convoluted mess. I actually enjoyed it.
Synopsis: One dark night a series of bright lights appear and a scientist with some adorable slippers is murdered and de-eyed by a glowing man with the same wardrobe as the Elephant Man when he refuses to hand over some sort of elixir. The murders continue as a young scientist and his poor girlfriend, who keeps discovering the bodies, must find out why his colleagues keep getting murdered. Could it have something to do with the serum that can make fish bigger.
Review: I wish more films had the balls to not just add filler when you only have a 35 minute movie. Biotherapy had gore galore and an interesting enough story to tie everything together. The monster effects creepy in it's blurry Giallo inspired attire as it did when it was de-masked.
Carnage Count 5/5
Sleaze Score 0/5
Biotherapy (1986) (Japan) *** DVD KotW: Some alien creature dressed up like a killer in a 70s giallo brutally murders a bunch of scientists who have just discovered a serum that speeds up biological growth. Unsubtitled so I’m not sure what the hell was going on but it’s under 40 minutes long and features some fantastic splatter and a climatic reveal of the cool looking monster.
Not gonna lie, I'm pretty sure watching movies like this is giving me brain damage.
A decent gore delivery system, but nothing I'll feel any need to recommend or watch again.
Decent quickie from that glorious time in Japan in the 80s where a handful of short, sfx-heavy stuff was coming out. Scientists are creating a drug that could potentially wipe out all plankton and completely screw up the environment, but they're all getting killed off by this time-travelling alien that dispatches them in really brutal ways. The narrative is kind of stiff for such a short runtime, but the alien and effects are top notch.
This time-travelling humanoid thing has the worst interrogation technique -- he just walks up to people and demands a super secret serum, and before his victims have a chance to do or say anything he's like ripping out their eyeballs or stabbing them in the chest with beakers. Who wins here? (The audience, that's who.)
