  Is a story about the good apple what's important right now? Not sure, so I'll leave that to you. A trio of terrific performances make this sing when it has to, though, and you could do a lot worse than a reverse TRAINING DAY that suggests that there's still some good to be done behind a badge.

  rich subject matter that dowling & taylor are incapable of conceptualizing as anything beyond plot thrills. harris is unsurprisingly good and much of this is elevated by her and dante spinotti's photography, though it was sort of depressing to realize that this mediocrity was still the most compelling work the man who shot Heat and The Insider has received in over a decade now. solid shootout near the end... awfully clean, simplistic ending considering the real-world topic at hand.

  Frank Grillo is a badass, and I would watch him in a movie about the art of paint drying. I decided to check out Black and Blue because of him. I knew he wasn’t the lead, so I wasn’t expecting a lot out of the rest of the story. Well, call me pleasantly surprised.

  Black and Blue’s strength is its frantic pace. It is an almost non-stop CHASE / SURVIVE THE NIGHT action flick. Naomie Harris is a believable lead. A war vet / rookie cop who accidentally witnesses a dirty cop (Frank Grillo) murder a baddie in cold blood.   looks like an absolute home run to me, hard to mess up. however, they managed. like hardcore. so, so frustrating.

  starting with the opportunity of having this set in New Orleans and possibly making the best out of a location with all this (black) history. instead: the areas looking interchangeable and even literally like the Hamburg harbor in some shots. you serious?

  then the theme of highest actuality - the intertwining of black and blue lives - and the first scene (she as black cop getting into a police check in a "better" neighborhood) points to it right away, but then this kinda feels just like a gimmick and hook for the police corruption thriller this actually just wants to…

  This film brings quite a bit to the table (filmmaking-wise). It holds a surprisingly different performance from Tyrese Gibson. Naomis Harris is magnetic, as usual, and her performance makes this movie worth watching (if you were looking forward to it). If you don’t have an anticipation for this and you are seeing it out of “review-obligation,” then you may not get anything new out of it. It is just a movie that I have seen too many times before, and it does nothing to standout.   While there’s nothing special about it, it does provide plenty of heart-pulsing thrills that’ll keep you on the edge of your seat despite being just a tad predictable... but you’ll get over it.

  Black and Blue represents what is easily director Deon Taylor's best work as a filmmaker to date, crafting a surprisingly competent, even often enjoyable, cop thriller with strong performances (especially from Naomie Harris, Tyrese Gibson, and Frank Grillo) and well-put together action sequences. That being said, it's rather disappointing that this is only competent when it could've been so much more given the subject matter; I think Taylor and writer Peter A. Dowling would've been better off had this just been a straightforward action film because their attempts at social commentary, while certainly timely and deeply admirable, are handled too clumsily and simplistically to make a real impact. As far as films like this go, you can certainly do worse.

  A dumpster fire of grandiose proportions. There is so much that could be said in a film like this, yet the perpetually corny dialogue and horrible lead performance from Harris made me want to genuinely gouge my eyes out.

  There's nothing good here, aside from Tyrese Gibson. I have a headache.

  Manchmal würde ich gerne wissen nach welchen Kriterien meine Freundin einen Film aussucht. Gestern Abend durch Netflix gestöbert und sie bleibt bei diesem Film hängen und der wurde dann auch geschaut. Ich bin ehrlich, von dem hatte ich noch nie was gehört.

  Black and Blue ist ein routinierter Cop-Thriller der strickt seinem Weg folgt. Sowohl im Positiven als auch im Negativen. Er bietet genug um nicht langweilig zu sein, ist im gleichen Moment aber leider zu vorhersehbar. Welche Charaktere sich in welche Richtung entwickeln ist stets sehr einfach zu durchschauen. Dennoch bietet Black and Blue genug Qualität um keine Katastrophe zu sein. So spielt gerade Naomi Harris die junge Polizistin glaubwürdig und überzeugend. Frank Grillo darf wieder mal den Bad…
